Astro Bot Vicious Void Review: Filling the Void

This new content was clocked in at almost an hour all together.

Review:

Sometimes, video games showcase a slew of free updates that add more things for free. And Team Asobi’s GOTY winner, Astro Bot, is no exception to this. Over the last 5 weeks, we have seen them add new levels based on certain powerups once you reach the goal, you get to rescue a new VIP bot in a new galaxy known as Vicious Void, which can only be accessed once you beat the final boss.

The first of these levels is an ice level called Tick-Tock Shock, which makes you use the stopwatch powerup. It was relatively easy to get through.

The second of these levels is a jungle-themed level called Thrust or Bust, which makes use of the dog powerup. Admittedly, this was the hardest among the levels in the new update, resulting in me dying one too many times. But through sheer will, I got through it and honestly, I don’t want to go through it again.

The third of these levels is a Japanese castle level called Cock-A-Doodle-Doom, which makes use of the chicken powerup. This one was alot easier than last time, but still a fair bit challenging. Didint die as many times as before, but it was still a fun level.

The fourth of these levels is a carnival level known as Hard to Bear, which makes use of the rarely used bear powerup. It was tricky getting used to its controls once again as I traversed through the level, but it was a more fun level like the first one.

The last of these levels is an Egyptian-themed level called Armored Hardcore, which makes use of the steel ball power. While this level might be tricky at first, given the nature of the upgrade, once you see the pattern, it’s pretty simple to go through.

After rescuing all five of the new bots, which I will not name because I wanna keep the surprise, I can safe to say that these five levels, despite their varying difficulty, are welcomed into the game with open arms and the new bots fit right on into the hub world after getting their special items.
Whether this is the end of Astro Bot’s updates or not, this game should be remembered as a titan of platforming.
