Sonic Racing Crossworlds closed network test: A Solid test with tons of speed

This closed network test was played for over 3 hours on PlayStation 5

Review:

Through the course of racing games, you would usually like to see your favorite characters racing it out on the track. Mario has done it. Crash Bandicoot has done it. Characters from cartoon shows have done it. Even chibi versions of your favorite characters have done it. And Sonic, the fastest thing alive, is no exception. The closed network test for the new Sonic racing game, Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, has shown that it has the juice to fuel future races with its unique track ideas, fun character selects, and very limited customization options. This closed network test has alot more good than bad.

Jumping into the closed network test, there is not enough time to practice before you’re thrown to the track with limited characters, tracks, and carts. Despite the limited options, there are alot of chances to have a ton of fun, and boy do they deliver. While there is no way to play with friends unless you are unbelievably lucky, you are stuck racing against 12 people: 6 real people and 6 computers. Once you level up your ranking, you start to find more people than bots. With various tracks within tracks, tons of fun powerups and upgrades for you to use, and top-notch music and sounds to boot, this is shaping up to be Sonic’s best racing game yet.

Unfortunately, there are alot of notes that SEGA needs to take when working on this. A major thing i would like to point out is the unstable connection issues. One out of every third match I get booted back to the lobby and some of the racers start glitching ahead and behind. SEGA needs to make sure that by the time of the game’s launch or at the very least a second test the connection becomes more stable and hopefully more content showcases.

Overall, I would say that this closed network test was a solid success. While the races were fun to go through, the limited content and the connection issues had slowed the game to a standstill at times. I hope the next time I get behind the wheel is with a full game with tons of options to play, tons of characters to race, and many more surprises. Overall, I would say that this game, above all else, was pretty fun!
