Xbox Showcase Review part 1: a Blazing showcase

This showcase ran for 1 of the 2 hours on June 10th, 2024

Review:

Merely 2 days later after the Summer Game Fest presentation, it was Microsoft’s turn to show brand new news in the form of the Xbox Showcase, and the first time they did so after buying Activision-Blizzard. While news of the shutting down studios like Tango Gameworks is still fresh on everyone's minds and gamers refusing to let them live it down, Microsoft did promise us that they won’t shut down any more studios. But here, they showed us a taste of what Xbox has for store in the future, both for the Xbox Showcase and an extra hour dedicated to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

The one thing I do like about the Xbox Showcase is that they barely took breaks in between for speeches. They rapid-fire new trailers one after another and with that, they showcased alot more stuff than Summer Game Fest and the Sony State of Play combined.

To showcase this, they first started hard by premiering a brand new Doom game called Doom: The Dark Ages. Taking place during the 2016 timeline, this is a prequel game before Doom 2016 where the Doomslayer is in more of a medieval setting but still possesses the brutal nature Doom is recognized for.

After that, they started going into game trailers, maximizing hype with new trailers, announcements, and surprising reveals. One of these new trailers is the upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid Delta, a remake of MGS3 Snake Eater, one of the best games of its time. Filled with secrets, filled with dangers, faithfully recreated by Konami. There is no release date yet, but seeing this still benign worked on after so long is good. On the topic of remakes, Rare’s iconic shooter remake of Perfect Dark finally showcased its first gameplay trailer and it looks magnificent. Once again, this sadly does not have a release date.

And getting into brand new games, there is one this particular blogger has been wanting to check out since it was announced. Expedition 33, a brand new RPG heading to Xbox systems is also acting as Sandfall Interactive’s debut game. It’s coming 2025 to Xbox and stars Ben Starr (Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy 16) as the lead role.

Another game I cannot wait for is the new Indiana Jones game coming out later this year: The Great Circle. A first-person action-adventure game that gives you both the whip and the wit of famous archeologist Dr. Indiana Jones as he solves the case of why alot of the wonders of the world engulfs itself as a great circle.

While we are getting new trailers for upcoming games, certain Xbox games are getting better and better with new updates for such games as Fallout 76’s new expansion taking place in Skyline Valley, and the Ghoul class will also be unlocked. Other games include Sea of Thieves getting a brand new season within the next month, Starfield gaining a new expansion in the form of Shattered Space, Elders Scrolls Online’s Gold Road expansion, and World of Warcraft’s newest expansion of The War Within.

With all these games, plus many more on the horizon, feels like a good year for Xbox players worldwide to play these upcoming games when they drop on Xbox and PC.
